The Muslim community in Austin founded Austin Peace Academy, formerly Peace Elementary School, to meet the crucial challenge of stimulating students intellectually while also enabling them to preserve their Islamic identity, heritage, and practices.
Austin Peace Academy was established in 1997 in a small building with about sixteen students as the first Islamic school in Austin. The school was initially named Peace Elementary School and was located at 1906 Nueces Street, Austin, TX 78705, offering Pre-K through Kindergarten in its first year. In 1997, the school moved to its current location at 5110 Manor Road, Austin, TX 78723, where it continued to grow and expand its mission.
As the school developed, Austin Peace Academy made major investments in its facilities to better serve its students and community. In 2019, the school opened a 15,000-square-foot Upper School building. In 2023, Austin Peace Academy completed a 7-vs-7 soccer turf field and also broke ground on a 20,000-square-foot gymnasium and multipurpose expansion that will include a theater, library, and banquet hall. The completion date for this project has not yet been determined.
