Emphasis on national honor societies at APA PDF Print E-mail

Parents should be aware that Austin Peace Academy places a large emphasis on the students being admitted to the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. Students must meet criteria established by the national office in order to be considered for these honors. The five criteria include: academic achievement, character, service to the community, student leadership, and citizenship. A faculty committee for selection into the school organization then examines students who meet those criteria.

National Honor Society is an important part of the students “portfolio” for college, work experience, or scholarships. Alex Pritchard, Director of Academic Affairs at APA explained, “Every college understands the importance of being selected into the school’s National Honor Society. This honor tells colleges that a student has not only been a good student academically but an honor citizen with demonstrated leadership ability”. We hope parents will also appreciate the importance of their child’s involvement in school activities and encourage them to participate.
