During the 2008-09 academic year, APA will introduce SPRINGBOARD, a unique and specialized program designed specifically to enhance student learning and help improve academic performance.
SPRINGBOARD program is offered by CollegeBoard, which administers the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), a standardized test for admission to colleges.
SALIENT FEATURES
• Helps students build the necessary skills for success in AP (Advanced Placement) courses and college work
• Clearly maps what successful students must know and be able to do at each grade level
• Employs a systematic approach to increase rigor in the curriculum and improve diversity in AP courses
• Prepares students to succeed in college and AP courses, and challenges and engage all students
• Improves critical thinking in Reading, Writing, and Math
CUSTOMIZED LEARNING
• APA will implement SPRINGBOARD program to English and Math curriculum
• In Spring 2009, students in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades will take the PSSS (Preliminary SAT Scoring Service)
• Program will help identify areas of weakness(es) and provide indication of each student’s possible SAT scores
• Data will help teachers provide the necessary assistance ‘early enough’ to address the areas of weakness
• Students will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) in the fall of sophomore year and SAT in junior year
