Twenty four (24) APA students earned Presidential Awards in 2006-07.
National Association of Elementary School Principals has created PresidentХs Education Awards Program (PEAP) to help principals recognize and honor those students who have achieved high academic goals through their hard work and dedication to learning. A certificate of recognition is granted with a special pin to nominees.
There are two types of awards:
- President's Award for Educational Excellence (PAEE)
- President's Award for Educational Achievement (PAEA)
The following criteria must be applied for the PAEE:
- Grade Point Average (GPA) of nominee should be at least 90 %, or 3.5 out of 4 point scale
- School criteria are used to assess special skill the student might have
- State Achievement Tests scores
- National Achievement Tests scores
- Class teacher recommendation
- Another staff/teacher recommendation
The following criteria must be applied for the PAEA:
- Student shows tremendous growth but not enough to earn (PAEE).
- Demonstrate commitment to learning despite obstacles.
- Maintain records to qualify student for (PAEE) but illness, personal crisis, or special needs prevented student from reaching that award.
- Shows outstanding scores and development in Language, Math, Science, etc.
The school principal has the final authority to determine which students receive any of the awards, based on the above criteria.
The Continental Mathematics League (CML) has placed Austin Peace Academy in First Place nationally in its "CML Euclidean Division - Grade 6" math competition. This is the highest level of recognition that has been awarded to APA at this national competition where five of our 6th graders scored perfect 100%.
